Join JusticeMatters as we partner with Neighbor to Neighbor to provide empowering legal education and individual consultations for our Spanish-speaking neighbors in north Raleigh on relevant immigration and traffic issues.

Following a presentation about the law and legal resources, we need you to help provide consultations for attendees who desire personal legal advice in various areas of law.  All consultation teams will include two attorneys, a law student, and an interpreter/translator.  Backup attorneys with expertise in key areas of law will be available to assist as needed.

*All volunteers who RSVP will receive an email with additional details and resources prior to the clinic.  Prior experience in legal aid and/or specific practice areas is not required.  Volunteers will work in teams consisting of some combination of attorneys, law students, and paralegals.  All volunteers are covered by professional liability insurance.

The Durham Police Department and Project Safe Neighborhoods is holding the first FaithActs Summit on Saturday, June 2nd from 9:00 to 12:00 at Duke Memorial Methodist Church (504 West Chapel Hill Street).

Durham Police Department officers will present information about domestic violence, gang awareness, and mental health. The sessions are designed to support faith leaders, your church family, and outreach ministry teams. A delicious continental breakfast will be available during registration from 8:30-9:00 am. Each participant will receive a special FaithActs bag and promotional items.

End of Grade Testing for Durham’s middle schools is fast approaching– May 15th, 16th, and 17th from 7:30 am to 11:00 am each day. Schools are in desperate need of test proctors on these days to help facilitate and monitor the testing process. I will admit test proctoring seems pretty boring. You spend several hours early in the morning watching kids read and fill in bubbles. Not exactly the time of your life.

BUT, I am asking you to consider it. Why? Because serving as a test proctor affords you the opportunity to do some strategic on site praying at your neighborhood school. Instead of just watching kids take a test, you could sit with them for a few hours and intercede for them, their families, their tests, the teachers, the administration and the school as a whole. You could (silently) pray Scripture and blessing over them.

Imagine what it would be like if every middle school in Durham had prayer warriors serving as their test proctors!! This is a very practical way for the Body of Christ in Durham to glorify the Lord in serving the city. (Plus you’ll get a free breakfast!)

And so, if you are able, I am asking you to join me in serving at your neighborhood middle school as a test proctor on any or all of the testing days mentioned above. Each school needs about 50 people. If you are interested, please contact the testing coordinator at your neighborhood school. See below:

On Thursday, April 26, 2012 join the Durham Police Department’s Victim Services Unit in a March Against Violence. Bring the family, including children.

Social Hour 6:00 pm  Surviving victims and family are invited to enjoy light refreshments and to commemorate the lives of their loved ones through a collaborative art project.
